Janet Rayner's Work

Original Oil Paintings

Passage painting

All original oil paintings are executed on custom made, ultra fine grain, oil primed linen canvas using the highest quality permanent pigments. The paintings are protected with several coats of a special mixture of Soluvar matte and gloss varnishes. Rayner formulated this mix to give a pleasant sheen to the finished art work that accentuates the detail and color. All original work is framed.

Original Pastel Paintings

Day Dream painting

All original pastel paintings are done with the finest quality soft pastels and pastel pencils. They are painted on Colourfix art media; an acid-free watercolor board with a light fast acrylic / silica mix primer that imparts a fine tooth. They are mounted on acid-free foam board, and matted with archival museum board, framed, with glass or Plexiglas to protect the image. Pastel is one of the most permanent painting mediums when the works are protected properly during handling and display. The colors are pure pigment with virtually no binders that can yellow or crack.

About the Prints

Numbered and signed, limited edition, fine art prints are available of the paintings in this website. Janet Rayner personally makes each print, using the finest digital printmaking materials and techniques. Rayner uses software technology developed by Bill Atkinson, to achieve outstanding print quality on Somerset Velvet art paper on an Epson Stylus Pro 9600 printer with UltraChrome archival inks. These inks have been rated to last more than 62 years under ordinary glass and 125 years framed under UV Filter, according to accelerated light fading tests conducted by Wilhelm Imaging Research.

How the prints are made

Original art work is scanned at 300 - 400 dpi using a professional quality flat bed scanner. The image is then put into Adobe Photoshop where the print is proofed and the color adjusted by Janet Rayner to match the original piece as closely as possible. Many times the print color and quality are so precise that the print is virtually indistinguishable from the original work of art. Janet personally inspects, signs and numbers each limited edition print.
